Κρητική σφραγίδα φέρει η νέα ασπιρίνη, η οποία πρόκειται να ανατρέψει τα όσα γνωρίζαμε μέχρι και σήμερα για την προστασία της υγείας μας από τα κρυολογήματα και την κοινή γρίπη. Τη «μαγική» κάψουλα παρασκεύασε η ομάδα των καθηγητών του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης και αποτελεί παγκόσμια πατέντα με δίπλωμα ευρεσιτεχνίας. Η ασπιρίνη συνδυάζει την απόλυτη αξιοποίηση των κρητικών βοτάνων με τις αυστηρές προδιαγραφές που θέτει η σύγχρονη φαρμακευτική επιστήμη.
Εμπνευστές της έρευνας είναι οι καθηγητές Ιατρικής Ηλίας Καστανάς και Χρήστος Λιόνης και ο καθηγητής Βιολογίας Στέργιος Πυρίντσος. Για την παρασκευή του φαρμάκου συνεργάστηκαν, επίσης, η Ενωση Αγροτικού Συνεταιρισμού Ρεθύμνου και η ελληνική φαρμακοβιομηχανία Gallenica.
Οι προοπτικές της κρητικής ασπιρίνης, από τη στιγμή που θα εγκριθεί από τον ΕΟΦ, αναμένεται να ξεπεράσουν τα σύνορα της χώρας και το φάρμακο να πιστοποιηθεί τόσο από τις ευρωπαϊκές αρχές όσο και από την αμερικανική FDA (Food and drug administration).
Τα μαγικά βότανα
Αν και τα συστατικά του είναι εντελώς φυσικά, οι επιστήμονες ισχυρίζονται ότι το νέο σκεύασμα αποτελεί φάρμακο και όχι συμπλήρωμα διατροφής, όπως είχε εσφαλμένα χαρακτηριστεί.
Οι ιδιότητές του, οι οποίες απορρέουν από τα κρητικά βότανα, θεωρούνται ευεργετικές για τον ανθρώπινο οργανισμό.
Και τα τρία «μαγικά» βότανα είναι διαλυμένα σε ελαιόλαδο, οι φαρμακευτικές ιδιότητες του οποίου είναι γνωστές από την αρχαιότητα. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, ο Ηλίας Καστανάς αρνήθηκε να αποκαλύψει τα τρία συστατικά που απαρτίζουν τη συνταγή της κάψουλας.
«Το φάρμακο θα αποτελέσει παγκόσμια πατέντα. Αν αποκαλύπταμε κάποιο από τα τρία βότανα, πολύ φοβάμαι ότι θα είχαμε το φαινόμενο της τηλεοπτικής «φραπελιάς», όταν όλοι πήγαιναν και κούρευαν τα φύλλα της ελιάς και τα χτυπούσαν στο μίξερ. Αυτό το «φάρμακο» που προοριζόταν για πάσαν νόσον και μαλακίαν, κάθε άλλο παρά φάρμακο ήταν», συμπληρώνει σκωπτικά ο Ηλίας Καστανάς.
Η έρευνα του πανεπιστήμιου εστίασε στους κατοίκους της νότιας Κρήτης. Πληροφορίες των επιστημόνων που βασίζονταν σε λαϊκές παραδόσεις, μαρτυρούσαν πως το συγκεκριμένο κρητικό αφέψημα χρησιμοποιείτο από παλιά στις ντόπιες κρητικές συνταγές και προστάτευε τους Κρητικούς από τη γρίπη.
Η επιστημονική παρατήρηση ήλθε να επιβεβαιώσει τις λαϊκές παραδόσεις. Η δωδεκάχρονη έρευνα που έγινε από την επιστημονική ομάδα ανέδειξε ότι ο οργανισμός των Κρητικών που κατανάλωναν το κοκτέιλ βοτάνων παρουσίαζε ισχυρή αντίσταση στα κρυολογήματα και στις λοιμώξεις.
Από τη φύση
Σκοπός των επιστημόνων δεν είναι να αντικαταστήσουν την παραδοσιακή ασπιρίνη, αλλά να προωθήσουν στην αγορά ένα φυσικό φάρμακο, το οποίο θα είναι βγαλμένο από την κρητική γη.
«Τα υλικά από τα οποία αποτελείται η κάψουλα δεν παρουσιάζουν, μέχρι στιγμής, επιπτώσεις στην υγεία. Η δοσολογία που θα συστήνεται θα είναι παρόμοια με την κατανάλωση 2 με 3 ροφημάτων την ημέρα», δηλώνει ο Ηλίας Καστανάς.
Η τιμή του φαρμάκου, σύμφωνα με τον όρο που έχει βάλει ο Αγροτικός Συνεταιρισμός Ρεθύμνου, δεν πρόκειται να ξεπερνάει το 1 ευρώ.
Το φάρμακο αναμένεται να πάρει μέσα στο 2011 την έγκριση του ΕΟΦ.
Η αγάπη για τις ευεργετικές ιδιότητες των κρητικών βοτάνων δεν ήταν το μόνο κίνητρο για τους επιστήμονες, ώστε να παρασκευάσουν το φάρμακο.
Το σημαντικότερο κίνητρο για την παρασκευή του φαρμάκου αποτέλεσε η αναπτυξιακή κατεύθυνση που δίνεται στους ελαιοκαλλιεργητές του Αγροτικού Συνεταιρισμού Ρεθύμνου.
Από τη στιγμή που το φάρμακο θα μπει στην παραγωγή, μέρος της σοδειάς τους θα προορίζεται για την παρασκευή της κάψουλας.
«Η πολιτεία δεν μας παρείχε καμία απολύτως βοήθεια για την παρασκευή του φαρμάκου. Τα κονδύλια για την έρευνα και την παραγωγή του τα αντλήσαμε από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Κρήτης, τον Αγροτικό Συνεταιρισμό Ρεθύμνου και τη φαρμακευτική εταιρεία», τονίζει ο Ηλίας Καστανάς.
Η βιολογική ασπιρίνη της Κρήτης αποτελεί έν από τα πιο λαμπρά επιτεύγματα στον τομέα της φαρμακευτικής επιστήμης, που παρουσίασε το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης.

Καμία επίσημη ανακοίνωση δεν έγινε από την πλευρά του υπουργού Οικονομικών Γιώργου Παπακωνσταντίνου μετά τη δημοσίευση αποκαλυπτικού ρεπορτάζ στην εφημερίδα "Πρώτο Θέμα" την περασμένη Κυριακή, σύμφωνα με το οποίο ο ίδιος αποφάσισε να πετάξει στην Ουάσινγκτον για τη Σύνοδο του ΔΝΤ, όχι στις οικονομικές θέσεις ή έστω στην business class, αλλά με το πρωθυπουργικό Gulfstream.

Αγνοώντας του χαλεπούς καιρούς και το οικονομικό αδιέξοδο της χώρας, ο κ. Παπακωνσταντίνου προτίμησε το πρωθυπουργικό Gulfstream με ωριαίο πτητικό κόστος περί τις 6.000 ευρώ, πραγματοποιώντας με την συνοδεία του, μεταξύ των μελών της οποίας και ο μεγαλύτερος γιος του, ένα ταξίδι κόστους 150.000 ευρώ! Ένα ιλιγγιώδες ποσό στο οποίο δεν περιλαμβάνονται τα τέλη στάθμευσης και απογείωσης, τα οδοιπορικά και τα έξοδα διανυκτερεύσεων του πληρώματος.

Σύμφωνα με ασφαλείς πληροφορίες της εφημερίδας "Πρώτο Θέμα", ο υπουργός Οικονομικών είχε αναχωρήσει με το πρωθυπουργικό αεροσκάφος γύρω στις 5 το απόγευμα της Παρασκευής και, προφανώς, η δικαιολογία για το πολυδάπανο ταξίδι στην αμερικανική πρωτεύουσα ήταν οι επαφές που έπρεπε να έχει με τον Αμερικανό υπουργό Οικονομικών Τίμοθι Γκάιτνερ και τον επικεφαλής του ΔΝΤ Ντομινίκ Στρος Καν.

Ωστόσο, λίγο πριν τις 2 το μεσημέρι της Παρασκευής υπήρχε πτήση της Lufthansa για Ουάσινγκτον μέσω Φρανκφούρτης, ενώ νωρίτερα και η Air France είχε πτήση από Αθήνα για την πρωτεύουσα των ΗΠΑ μέσω Παρισιού.

Το δε βράδυ της Παρασκευής (μεσημέρι ώρα ΗΠΑ) από το Λονδίνο υπήρχαν τρεις πτήσεις με προορισμό την Ουάσινγκτον.

Τα στοιχεία που έχει παραθέσει το "Πρώτο Θέμα" είναι, όπως και στην περίπτωση του σκανδάλου της Express Service, συντριπτικά.

Ωστόσο, ο κ. Παπακωνσταντίνου επέλεξε τη μέθοδο της σιωπής μπροστά στους εμβρόντητους πολίτες που καταδικάστηκαν σε μια πρωτοφανή οικονομική ύφεση και σε συνεχείς περικοπές εισοδημάτων, καθώς καμία επίσημη ανακοίνωση δεν έχει γίνει, προκειμένου να δοθούν οι απαραίτητες εξηγήσεις για το υπέρογκο έξοδο των 150.000 ευρώ.

Ενώ το μέλλον για τους εργαζομένους όλης της χώρας διαγράφεται εξαιρετικά ζοφερό, μία ακόμα αποκάλυψη για βασικό μισθό 162.812 ευρώ στο γραφείο του αντιπροέδρου της κυβέρνησης, Θεόδωρου Πάγκαλου, είναι εξοργιστική.

Αλλωστε, στο φως της δημοσιότητας ήρθαν το απόγευμα της Πέμπτης, πληροφορίες για όργιο σπατάλης στο γραφείο του αντιπροέδρου, ύψους 46.319 ευρώ και τα οποία προορίζονταν μόνο για την αποπληρωμή λογαριασμών για κινητά τηλέφωνα.

Και ενώ οι πολίτες βλέπουν τους μισθούς και τις συντάξεις τους να μειώνονται δραματικά, περιμένοντας και νέο ψαλίδισμα, την ίδια στιγμή υπάρχουν στοιχεία για βασικό μισθό που δίνονταν σε υπάλληλο στο γραφείο του Θεόδωρου Πάγκαλου, ύψους 162.812 ευρώ.

Σύμφωνα με το έγγραφο που έφερε στο φως της δημοσιότητας η ιστοσελίδα Onalert.gr, η Γενική Γραμματεία της Κυβέρνησης ενέκρινε το συγκεκριμένο κονδύλι για την καταβολή βασικού μισθού για το 2011.

Μετά τις αποκαλύψεις για τηλέφωνα 46.000 ευρώ, η είδηση για έναν τέτοιο βασικό μισθό σίγουρα θα προκαλέσει νέο γύρο αντιδράσεων.

Αυτό που αναμένεται με ιδιαίτερο ωστόσο ενδιαφέρον είναι μια επίσημη τοποθέτηση ως προς αυτά που βλέπουν το φως της δημοσιότητας, δεδομένου ότι οι περικοπές σε μισθούς και συντάξεις δεν έχουν τελειωμό.

Η δεινή οικονομική κατάσταση στην οποία έχει περιέλθει η Ελλάδα φοβίζει τους Αμερικανούς, καθώς βλέπουν το χρέος τους να διογκώνεται και οι ΗΠΑ μπαίνουν στο στόχαστρο των αγορών.

"Αυτό είναι ό,τι αποκαλώ αλήθεια στη διαφήμιση", σχολιάζει ο Mike Flintjer, ενώ η Loretta Cuthbert Castleberry εκφράζει τη βεβαιότητα ότι κάτι τέτοιο πρόκειται να έρθει και για τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες Αμερικής.
"Δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία. Ας μας βοηθήσει ο Θεός", σημειώνει χαρακτηριστικά.

So you’re going to have to balance the budget not by taxing the rich – that’s our constituency – but by selling off your airports and your public domain and counting this as a budget inflow. So you balance your budget not by progressive taxation, which is how America and western Europe got rich, but by selling off the public domain – to foreigners mainly – and the idea is that you’re going to get rich by selling it off because these new buyers are going to operate the water and airports and other things more efficiently, and lower your prices.’
Well, of course, this is pure mythology. When you privatize a basic infrastructure it’s privatized on credit and so the new owners build in their interest charges and financial charges into the cost of doing business, they pay themselves enormous salaries, much higher than the public sector would pay, and they begin to treat their monopoly position as if they can put a toll booth on the roads, a toll booth on the water and sewers, a toll booth anywhere.

Tara O’Neill stands empty-handed and defiant outside a Marks & Spencer store on Dublin’s busiest shopping street. She won’t be tempted to buy anything.

“I’ve gotten rid of my credit cards and paid down my overdraft,” said O’Neill, 36, whose construction worker husband is in London after Ireland’s real-estate bubble collapsed. “Now we’re in recession. I don’t buy what I don’t have to.”

Irish retail sales are falling at more than twice the pace of the average in the euro region, after the government increased taxes and reduced salaries for state workers by 14 percent to help cope with Europe’s worst banking crisis. Consumer spending plunged 1.9 percent in the first quarter from the fourth quarter, the steepest drop in two years, according to figures published last month by the statistics office.

With household expenditure accounting for 53 percent of the economy, Ireland’s ability to emerge from its deepest economic contraction in history may depend on persuading people like O’Neill to start spending the cash they have left. The yield on 10-year Irish bonds rose to a record today amid speculation that the nation’s credit rating may join Greece and Portugal in being downgraded to junk.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan lowered the sales tax on everything from haircuts to meals to 9 percent from 13.5 percent starting July 1 and also has pleaded with consumers to replace their “clapped out” refrigerators and tumble dryers.
‘Guerilla Raids’

“There’s a whole generation of Irish people who were born to shop and they’ve had to change their behavior entirely,” said Austin Hughes, chief economist at KBC Ireland in Dublin, which publishes a monthly index of consumer sentiment. “It’s like they are burrowing deeper into their foxholes, saving and paying off debt, and only coming out for guerilla raids when they see a big bargain.”

Ireland’s economy has shrunk about 15 percent since 2007 and the unemployment rate tripled to 14.2 percent as key exporters, including Dell Inc., the world’s second-largest maker of personal computers, and Dublin-based drinks company C&C Group Plc (GCC) fired workers.

Irish 10-year bond yields climbed 55 basis points, or 0.55 percentage point, to 12.98 percent, while the yield on two-year notes remained above 15 percent for a second day after Portugal lost its investment-grade rating at Moody’s Investors Service. Representatives from the European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund and European Commission are in Dublin for the quarterly review of Ireland’s 85 billion-euro ($122 billion) bailout agreement reached in November.

The latest tranche of loans from the EU and the IMF has helped buy debt-ridden Greece some time. But the Greeks will find it hard to get back on their feet. Their country has been ruined by three political dynasties, which created a bloated system of cronyism that is hard to change. George Provopoulos, governor of the Bank of Greece, believes torpedoing the austerity package, as the country's conservative opposition tried, would have been "suicide." Still, Provopoulos also believes Greece has "reached the limit" and that it would be impossible to squeeze any more out of the people.
In remarks to the conservative newspaper Kathimerini, he spoke about what he saw as the root cause of the crisis. "There is little doubt that the failings of (the existing social and political) system hindered the implementation of policies that would have averted the existing ills," he said. "We are paying the price of past mistakes."
The emergency financing will help Greece through the next months and it will buy the rest of the EU some time -- time in which the euro crisis may ease somewhat. But it's unlikely that it can save Greece. The last few decades have seen an elite, with the Papandreou, Karamanlis and Mitsotakis families at its core, establish a system of economic patronage. They threw around billions the government didn't actually have and showered friends and relatives with prosperity that was all based on credit. These leaders bloated their country's administration so that everyone could have a piece, and created a bureaucratic monster in the process.
The political parties' business dealings were always more about favors than policies. Anyone with access to public funds used them to buy friends and voters, who were then beholden to the party -- and to the family running it. The result for Greece has been a feudal democracy, where the generations come and go, but the names remain the same: Papandreou and Karamanlis and Karamanlis and Papandreou, with a Mitsotakis thrown in every now and then. No other European democracy has seen the like.
Olive Trees, Blue Skies and Beaches
Meanwhile, the parties' feudal princes accustomed their people to living beyond their own means. Greece, with its 11 million inhabitants, is a poor country at the far edge of the EU that has olive trees, blue skies, beaches and not much else. One in four people who work, do so for the government. It's the source everyone wants to tap. [there's some popular German bullshit lies, in here, about the Greek worker. With political parties fleecing the nation wholesale, the people also grabbed whatever they could. The rich evaded taxes to the tune of billions, the poor scraped by with under-the-counter work and public officials opened their doors to bribery.
... Economics professor Georgios Argitis from Athens University sounds disdainful as he talks about the "ruling class of politics and capital that made the country its prey" and caused this mess. Contentious best-selling author Petros Markaris derides the "ailing state apparatus." Its representatives "have only one interest, namely maintaining their privileges," he says. "They don't give a damn about anything else." [the truth shall set you free]
He's referring, for example, to the parliament employees who still draw 14 months' salary each year, with an additional two on top of that. He's referring to the land of plenty that is the public sector, where politicians provide for those who have helped them, fathers for their family members and agency heads for their personal favorites.
Each new government which has taken office in Greece has hired thousands of officials and employees, without firing the old ones.
